You become a “Master” in Surf Life Saving the year that you reach your 30th Birthday. You are still classed as a Senior for membership purposes but it means you can compete in Surf Life Saving Events as a Master.
For competition the Age Groups are either in 5 or 10 year bands i.e. 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59 and 60+.
The Master members of the Club don’t currently have a separate training session but join in with everyone else. There is no pressure to compete but if you want to there are competitions at Regional, National and International level.
Over the last five years our Masters have been very successful at all levels of competition being Cornish Masters Champions on a number of occasions. We have also attended the World Championships (Rescue 2010) at Alexandria in Egypt and Rescue 2014 Montpellier, France
For a report on the events please see our press release.
We don’t take ourselves too seriously and try to have “fun” at the various competitions we normally attend.
Training is up to you, there are many members of the Club who are always happy to provide advice and coaching on all the different aspects that we call “Surf Life Saving” i.e Board Paddling, Ski Paddling, Swimming, Running, Beach Flags etc.
As a Club member you can also undertake any courses that are taking place and obtain qualifications such as SLSGB Beach Lifeguard, SLSGB Life Saver Support Award, First Aid and Resuscitation etc. These are all free to members of the Club.
All training sessions at the Clubhouse are free and there is Club equipment that you can borrow. Our weekly swimming session at Carn Brea Leisure Centre on Tuesday evenings will cost you £2.50 per week. See Club Timetable for a list of all our year round activities
