This has been another difficult year singling out the nine Nippers to receive trophies, as all of the Nippers have done so incredibly well. BEST GIRL NEWCOMER – Best newcomer is always a difficult award as it can feature Nippers from all age groups. This year’s recipient has been a great addition to the club in all aspects of Nipper activity. She is keen, reliable and works hard in training, with a great attitude and willingness to learn. Competition results have reflected this and not many Nippers can say they won a National gold so soon after joining the club. We look forward an even better season in 2015. This year’s best newcomer girl is – NIAMH CREEGAN BEST BOY NEWCOMER – This young man joined the club last summer and was already...

Another successful SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Course

Eight more members of Hayle Surf Life Saving Club have successfully gained their SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Award after six weeks of training. Juniors, Ben Tredinnick, Nick Pearson and Billy Read were taking the exam for the first time alongside Nipper Parents, Mike Friday and James Harrison. Other successful candidates were Traci Parker, Emma Tredinnick and Jess Fairlie. Course Instructor, James Uren, said “It is a big achievement to obtain this professional qualificaton as there is a great deal of information to learn from the extensive manual and all the practical aspects of resuscitation to mastering different rescue techniques in the sea, not to mention the timed swim of 400 metres in under 7min 30 sec. Thank you to the Assessors, John (Jock) Paton, Nick Pendrich and Jack Butler (trainee) for giving up their time and to fellow Instructor Jamie Smith for helping out when required. It is especially satisfying when members who joined as Nippers (7 to 13yrs) successfully gain this award as this is a reflection on all the good work and instruction that goes on throughout the years within the...

Success for 14 members of Club with Bronze Lifesaving Award

Fourteen young members from the Nipper, Junior and Senior sections of Hayle Surf Life Saving Club took the first step towards becoming professional Beach Lifeguards when they obtained their Surf Life Saving GB Bronze Lifesaving Award on Sunday 18 March.  The award (minimum age 11) turns competent swimmers into potential Life Savers and covers a knowledge of water safety, rescue procedures and being sun smart on the beach, practical demonstrations of resuscitation and first aid and a demonstration of survival skills and rescue techniques in the water. Course Assessor, Steve Penberthy, said “I was very impressed with the competency and keenness of all the candidates, they passed the award with flying colours and are now eager to move on to the Silver Award.  The award can be taken in a swimming pool but everyone was happy to go through their paces in the sea despite the cold and messy conditions and I am sure that they will all make excellent Lifeguards in the...

ANNUAL CLUB DO AND PRESENTATION EVENING RE 2011

ANNUAL CLUB DO AND PRESENTATION EVENING RE 2011

ANNUAL CLUB DO AND PRESENTATION EVENING RE 2011 Hayle Surf Life Saving Club held an extremely well attended Annual Club Do and Presentation evening at Hayle Rugby Club on Saturday 28 January 2012 to celebrate their successes throughout 2011, their 50th Anniversary year.  It was decided that a change of venue was needed due to the amount of members the Club now has and instead of a sit down meal everyone brought a plate of food for the buffet.  The new format worked well and resulted in a huge turnout with plenty of food for everyone.  Club member, Mike Friday provided the disco which was very much appreciated by those who wanted to let their hair down. Club Chairman, Graham Williams said “It was a fantastic evening, one of the best we’ve had.  It was lovely to see so many members, family and friends there from all sections of the Club.  2011 saw us celebrating our 50th anniversary and the formation of a very successful new section, “Sandhoppers” for 5 and 6 year olds.  It was a pleasure to present our members with their certificates for all the qualifications they have gained throughout the year and congratulations to everyone who received a trophy; they were all very well deserved.  Thank you to everyone who helped with the organisation and presentation of the evening, for all the raffle prizes donated and to Hayle RFC staff for making us so welcome. The Club continues to grow from strength to strength and we have had a really good start to 2012 with the news that we have been awarded a grant of...
